Eine Kollegin, die im MARC Advisory Committee den "Map and Geospatial Information Roundtable" (MAGIRT) der American Library Association (ALA) vertritt, hat mich gebeten, diesen Hinweis auf eine Umfrage zur Verwendung von Klassifikationen bei der Erschließung von kartographischen Ressourcen weiterzugeben und zur Teilnahme zu empfehlen. Dear Colleagues:



You are invited to participate in a survey regarding the classification systems used to classify sheet maps, atlases, and other cartographic resources in your institution. The purpose of the survey is to determine which map classifications systems are in common use in institutions in the United States as well as in other countries. Institutions invited to participate in the survey include academic libraries, public libraries, museums, historical societies and similar organizations regardless of size.



Little has been written about map classification systems over the past 30 years and your participation in the survey would be most helpful to Map Catalogers, Map Librarians, and others responsible for organizing and classifying cartographic resources in their own institutions.
