[rak-list] "Rewording": Die ersten Kapitel sind da

Liebe Kolleginnen, liebe Kollegen,

einer der Aufträge, der sich aus dem RDA-Test ergab, war die 
Umformulierung ("rewording") des Regelwerks in einfachem und 
verständlichem Englisch. Am 11. Dezember sind nun die ersten 
umgearbeiteten Kapitel (Kap. 6, 9, 10 und 11) im RDA Toolkit 
veröffentlich worden. Die alten Texte scheinen über das Toolkit nicht 
mehr abrufbar zu sein (zumindest habe ich sie auf die Schnelle nicht 
gefunden), aber ich habe noch ältere Ausdrucke, anhand derer ich die 
alte und neue Fassung vergleichen kann.

Auf den ersten Blick sind die Veränderungen durchaus positiv. Ich habe 
es noch nicht in Gänze abgeglichen, kann aber zumindest ein paar Trends 
angeben:

- Aufzählungen, die bisher als Fließtext präsentiert wurden, werden 
jetzt häufig als Spiegelstrichaufzählung dargestellt (z.B. Anfang von 6.0).

- Die Inhalte erscheinen z.T. innerhalb der Abschnitte in etwas anderer, 
sinnvollerer Reihenfolge (z.B. bei 6.0: bisher kam der Hinweis auf 
spezielle Regeln für Musik, Recht etc. gleich als zweiter Absatz, jetzt 
kommt er erst etwas weiter unten und ist deutlich von den allgemeinen 
Regeln getrennt).

- "Monstersätze" werden in mehrere Sätze aufgespalten und es werden 
mitunter zusätzliche Erklärungen eingefügt. Als Beispiel hier der 
direkte Vergleich bei 6.1.2 ("Using access points to represent works and 
expressions").

"When using an authorized access point to represent a work or expression 
embodied in a manifestation (see
17.4.2) or to represent a related work (see 25.1) or a related 
expression (see 26.1), construct the access point
by applying the guidelines given under 6.27.1-6.27.3.
For guidelines on constructing variant access points representing works 
and expressions, see 6.27.4."

Neuer Text:
"An authorized access point is one of the techniques used to represent:
         a work or expression embodied in a manifestation (see 17.4.2)
/or/
         a related work (see 25.1)
/or/
         a related expression (see 26.1).
When constructing authorized access points, apply the guidelines at 
6.27.1-6.27.3.
When constructing variant access points, apply the guidelines at 6.27.4."

- Auch in anderen Fällen wird bisheriger Fließtext aufgebrochen und 
optisch anders präsentiert, indem mit zusätzlichen Absätzen, 
Einrückungen und Kursivsetzungen gearbeitet wird, z.B. 6.1.3.2 ("Works 
issued as serials):

Alter Text:
"For works issued as serials, treat the changes described under 
6.1.3.2.1 (change in responsibility) and 6.1.3.2.2
(major change in title proper) as changes requiring the construction of 
an authorized access point representing a new work."

Neuer Text:
"For works issued as serials:
/If:/
     there is a change in responsibility (see 6.1.3.2.1)
/or/
     there is a major change in title proper (6.1.3.2.2).
/then:/
     construct the authorized access point to represent a new work."

- Die Sprache ist insgesamt einfacher; unnötig komplizierte 
Formulierungen werden "begradigt", z.B. Ausschnitt aus 6.2.1.1 ("Basic 
instructions on recording titles of works - Scope"):

"For purposes of identifying works, titles of the work are categorized 
as follows:
a) preferred title for the work (see 6.2.2)
b) variant title for the work (see 6.2.3)"

Neuer Text:
"When identifying works, there are two categories of titles:
a) preferred title for the work (see 6.2.2)
b) variant title for the work (see 6.2.3)"

- Der Text wird z.T. etwas ausführlicher, z.B. 6.2.1.3 ("General 
guidelines on recording titles of works"):

Alter Text:
"When recording a title of a work, apply the guidelines on 
capitalization, numbers, accents, etc., given under
6.2.1.4-6.2.1.9. When those guidelines refer to an appendix, apply the 
additional instructions given in that
appendix, as applicable."

Neuer Text:
"When recording a title of a work, apply the guidelines on 
capitalization, numbers, diacritical marks, initial
articles, spacing of initials and acronyms, and abbreviations, at 
6.2.1.4-6.2.1.9. When those guidelines
refer to an appendix, apply the additional instructions in that 
appendix, as applicable."

Die nächsten umformulierten Kapitel (2 und 3) folgen im Februar, der 
Rest soll im April kommen.
