Liebe Liste,
hier ein kurzer Auszug aus einer Mail der CURL-Liste (CURL = Consortium of University
Research Libraries):
"UKMARC supports the Eszett; MARC 21 doesn't at the moment. As
part of the MARC harmonisation process there is a proposal before MARBI
http://lcweb.loc.gov/marc/marbi/2002/2002-14.html ... which proposes its addition to
the MARC 8 Latin set repertoire."

Obwohl Eszett in UKMARC existiert, bedeutet das nicht, dass alle Bibliotheken in
Grossbritannien es auch benutzen.  Denn gerade amerikanische Bibliothekssoftware, die
an sich UKMARC kompatibel ist, kann nicht unbedingt alle UKMARC Eigenheiten auch
ausfuehren (z.B. Eszett, aber auch variable subfield punctuation, Automatisierung der
Interpunktion).

Zur Zeit laueft hier durch die CURL-Liste eine Umfrage, die die Benutzung von Eszett
zum Thema hat.
