Liebe Kolleg:innen,

der Arbeitskreis Social Media-Daten in der Forschungspraxis, eine Initiative von NFDI4Culture<https://nfdi4culture.de/> gemeinsam mit BERD at NFDI<https://www.berd-nfdi.de/>, KonsortSWD<https://www.konsortswd.de/> und Text+<https://www.text-plus.org/> im Rahmen der Nationalen Forschungsdateninfrastruktur<https://www.nfdi.de/>, veranstaltet seit Anfang 2022 die Vortrags- und Diskussionsreihe "Social Media-Daten in der Forschungspraxis: Show & Tell"<https://nfdi4culture.de/de/dienste/details/show-tell-social-media-data-in-research-practice.html>.

Die Reihe<https://nfdi4culture.de/go/social-media-data-show-tell> widmet sich in einer anderthalbstündigen Zoom-Session den Tools im Feld der Social Media-Forschung und beleuchtet Best Practices ausgewählter Projekte. Im Fokus stehen neben pragmatischen Lösungen und technischen Möglichkeiten (Schnittstellen, Repositorien, Metadatenstandards, Interoperabilität ...) auch ethische und rechtliche Herausforderungen (z.B. Persönlichkeits- und Urheberrechte) im nachhaltigen, sicheren und kritische Umgang mit diesen Daten (Code and Data Literacy, FAIR & CARE Prinzipien). Nicht zuletzt möchten wir dazu einladen, interdisziplinäre Forschungsansätze und Lehrmethoden zu diskutieren, die tradierte wie fachspezifische Rahmen und Werkzeuge strapazieren.

2025 wollen wir uns dezidiert mit dem Umgang mit Social Media Daten in der Rechtsextremismus- und Demokratieforschung beschäftigen.

Die dritte Veranstaltung der Reihe findet am 20. Juni um 14:00 Uhr statt und wird gestaltet von Prof. Dr. Julia Bee<https://ifm.rub.de/institut/personen/prof-dr-julia-bee/> (Bochum), Dr. Elena Pilipets<https://www.uni-siegen.de/phil/medienwissenschaft/personal/lehrende/pilipets_elena/?lang=de> (Siegen) und Stephen Albrecht.
Neben den beiden Präsentationen stehen sieben übergeordnete Fragen zum Umgang mit Social-Media-Daten und die Diskussion mit der Community im Vordergrund.

Social Media Data: Show & Tell – Research on Right-Wing Extremism and Democracy (3)

The Working Group on Social Media Data in Research Practice, an initiative of NFDI4Culture<https://nfdi4culture.de/> in collaboration with BERD at NFDI<https://www.berd-nfdi.de/>, KonsortSWD<https://www.konsortswd.de/> and Text+<https://www.text-plus.org/> within the framework of the German National Research Data Infrastructure (NFDI), has been hosting the lecture and discussion series "Social Media Data in Research Practice: Show & Tell"<https://nfdi4culture.de/de/dienste/details/show-tell-social-media-data-in-research-practice.html> since early 2022.

This ongoing series, held in 90-minute Zoom sessions, explores tools and methodologies in the field of social media research and highlights best practices from selected projects. In addition to pragmatic solutions and technical capabilities (such as APIs, repositories, metadata standards, and interoperability), the series also addresses the ethical and legal challenges associated with the sustainable, secure, and critical use of these data (e.g., personal and copyright law, code and data literacy, and the FAIR & CARE principles). A central aim is to foster discussion around interdisciplinary research approaches and teaching methods that challenge conventional frameworks and disciplinary toolkits.

In 2025, the series will specifically focus on the use of social media data in research on right-wing extremism and democracy.

The third event in the 2025 series will take place on June 20th at 2:00 PM (CEST) and will feature contributions from Prof. Dr. Julia Bee<https://ifm.rub.de/institut/personen/prof-dr-julia-bee/> (Bochum), Dr. Elena Pilipets<https://www.uni-siegen.de/phil/medienwissenschaft/personal/lehrende/pilipets_elena/?lang=de> (Siegen) und Stephen Albrecht.
Alongside these project presentations, the event will center around seven overarching questions regarding the use of social media data and an open discussion with the research community.
