Dear Colleagues,

Forgive me for this late réaction !

All those suggestions really make sense, thank you very much for that.

As an external speaker, we would also like to suggest Mr Gilles Clément,a
famous French writer and landscape gardener, who has developped a strong
vision around sustanability, the relation between nature and human being,
and the notion of responsability. He was also the artist in charge of the
artistic and design project of 'paper garden' around our new Richelieu
site, which we will visit on Sunday 18/06 as a part of our cultural
programme. Consequently, this external presentation will be linked to our
internal project of new site in Richelieu.

As a proper internal presentation, the BnF would like to propose an
intervention on our next new real-estate project of "Preservation centre
and conservatory for the press" in the city of Amiens, which has
sustainability and technology at its core.

Please tell me if those proposals suit you.

Best regards,

Laurence Engel

Dear Susanne & colleagues,

Thank you for your information and recommendations.

I certainly agree with your proposals to ask first:

Guillaume Lafortune / Paris and Harri Sahavirta / IFLA

As for the internal view:

I assume we will get guided tours from the colleagues of the BnF on the
new renovated site Richelieu, however it could be of interest to have a
more in depth presentation focusing on the sustainability aspect for this
project
The new National Library of Luxembourg has been explicitly designed as a
green and sustainable library. It might be interesting to hear some
lessons learned since the opening in 2019 (“From theory to practice”)

Best wishes
Hans Petschar

Betreff: [CENL-EC] Draft Call for contributions and some ideas for keynote
speakers

EXTERNE E-MAIL: Bitte Vorsicht bei Inhalt, Links und Anhängen.
Dear EC members,

At the secretariat we are starting to prepare for the next meeting and the
upcoming AGM. As you may have seen already, we informed the members of the
hotels for the AGM yesterday. Now it is time for the next steps.

As agreed upon during our meeting in September, we send you the draft for
a call for contributions for next year’s annual general meeting in Paris.
You will notice that we tried to keep it as open as possible. Do you have
any other ideas or amendments?

We also have looked for potential keynote speakers.

As external speakers, we have some well-known (at least in Germany)
persons in mind who often speak on sustainability from different
perspectives:
• Ranga Yogeshwar - a physicist and science journalist from
Luxembourg living in Germany. His grandfather was librarian S. R.
Ranganathan
• Alexander Gerst - European Space Agency astronaut and
geophysicist from Germany. He was part of the ISS Expedition in 2014
• Auma Obama - Kenyan-British community activist, sociologist,
journalist, author; sister of former president of the United States,
Barack Obama

Not as prominent as the above-mentioned is
Guillaume Lafortune - Director, Sustainable Development Solutions Network
Paris; Scientific Co-Director of the SDG Index
However, as he is located in Paris, we would prefer to ask first him
whether he could speak at the AGM. It would be the most sustainable
solution as he would not have to travel at all.

And as an internal keynote speaker, we would like to ask Harri Sahavirta –
He is the Chair of IFLA Environment, Sustainability and Libraries
(ENSULIB) section 2021-2023, from Finland.

We are still looking for another keynote speaker from a (national) library
or another heritage institution for the internal view. Do you have any
preferences or ideas?

Thanks for letting us know your comments on the draft call and your
preferences/ideas for the keynote speakers by 15 November 2022.

Thanks and best regards,
Susanne
