Please forward this announcement about an important international
conference to interested colleagues and lists. Note that the Advance
Registration fee has been extended to December 15 for European
participants.

Take a look at the conference website at
http://www.library.jhu.edu/rsd/other/wess2004/wess2004.html. The program
has been loaded listing speakers, presentations and panel topics!

Please join members of the Western European Studies Section (WESS), the
Association des Bibliothécaires Français, the Bibliothèque Nationale de
France, and European and American colleagues at the WESS European
Conference: Migrations in Society, Culture, and the Library, in Paris
during the Salon du Livre (www.salondulivreparis.com), March 22-26, 2004.
We very much welcome an international audience and would like to attract
librarians and scholars from as many countries as possible.

The program will address opportunities and tensions that migrations
demographic, technological, cultural, intellectual and literary bring to
Western Europe and libraries supporting Western European studies.

Keynote Speakers:
Roger Chartier, École des Hautes Études, Paris, and the University of
Pennsylvania
Jean-Claude Guédon, Université de Montréal, Canada
Friedrich Heckmann, University of Bamberg and Director of the European
Forum for Migration Studies
Hans-Jürgen Lüsebrink, University of Saarbrücken
David Seaman, Director of the Digital Library Federation in Washington, DC

We will be meeting on different days at three venues: the Bibliothèque
Nationale de France (site Mitterand), the Salon du Livre (Porte de
Versailles), and a conference center, the Espace Georges Bernanos (between
the Gare St-Lazare and the Opéra).

For more details about the program, registration, hotels (for which
discounted registration is separate), and other local information, please
